As the #MeToo movement is gaining momentum in India, Bollywood playback singer has made a shocking and derogatory statement. The seasoned singer has said that “fat and ugly girls are the ones blaming (sexual exploitation)” in the film industry.
The playback singer, whose full name is Abhijeet Bhattacharya, also is facing sexual assault allegations. A flight attendant had accused him of sexual assault in 1998. The woman had alleged that Abhijeet sexually assaulted her at a pub in Kolkata in 1998. However, Abhijeet has denied the allegations. He emphasised on the fact that he has never gone to parties, pubs or Page 3 events in his life. He said this is a publicity stunt and he doesn’t need to pay any attention to it, a report said.
“Somebody told me over the call. I was not born at that time. I have never gone to pubs in my life. You’ll never find me at any page 3 or filmy parties. My name sells. If someone’s benefiting from it, good. Sometimes earning their bread and butter with my name, it’s fine,” Abhijeet told the Indian Express in an interview.
Abhijeet made a controversial statement and mocked the #MeToo movement. He went on to say that the entire movement is a publicity stunt. He further said that only fat, dirty and ugly women are coming forward with such allegations.
“I don’t know against whom should I take action. Why should I give attention to that person? You are giving it importance not me. Most of the people who are coming out right now are dirty, ugly people. Koi mota hai koi patla hai. No one deserves (the attention). Just to grab some attention they are coming out. Most of the fat and ugly girls are blaming and I wasn’t born at that time,” the added.
