Itโ€™s My Opinion โ€“ The Shape Of Water, As Seen By Raj Bitu Kang

The Shape of Water (2018) ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

This is a peculiar movie and I’m not quite convinced it deserves all the hype that its been receiving ๐Ÿค”.

Directed by Guillermo Del Toro who gave us #panslabyrinth, I had high expectations but I found the movie to be a little dull ๐Ÿ˜ด. It’s basically a fairy tale set during the Cold War era but without any magic. I love fairy tales and loved the story of Beauty and the Beast but, I wasn’t quite convinced by a mute woman falling in love with a sea creature ๐Ÿ˜•. And no, that’s not a spoiler as the poster for the movie shows that ๐Ÿ˜.

There are a number of plot holes but there are also some plus points! The cinematography is good. The music soundtrack is good; it fits in well with the era and setting of the movie ๐ŸŽถ.

Sally Hawkins plays her role of the mute woman perfectly. You sympathise with her character and her struggles. Michael Shannon plays his role as a creepy villain with ease. I do find that he seems to always have that menacing look on his face that sends shivers down your spine ๐Ÿ˜จ.

I don’t believe this is a movie that will appeal to the masses but, to appreciate the cinematography it is worth watching it at the cinema and not on DVD.

2 out of 5 stars. Remember, itโ€™s my opinion!
