One of Birmingham’s main Asian nightspot’s Zara’s was attacked on the early hours of Sunday morning, leaving revellers shocked and the Police searching for clues.
A Broad Street boss has condemned “dumb” thugs who hurled petrol bombs and racial abuse from a car as thousands of revellers enjoyed a Saturday night out.
The petrol bombs, contained in bottles, were thrown from a vehicle towards Zara’s Bar, Grill, Club, around 12.20am on Sunday.
The potentially deadly missiles landed on the pavement with little impact. A racist comment was also shouted from the vehicle as the bottles were thrown, reports Birmingham Live.
CCTV is being recovered from the Broad Street – the heart of the city’s entertainment district- and officers are working to identify the vehicle involved.
And Westside BID manager Mike Olley said those responsible would have been caught on some of the area’s many CCTV cameras.
He said: “It is an extremely dumb and dangerous thing for someone to do. I am confident the perpetrators will be caught and we are working with the police to ensure this happens.
“We have substantial amounts of CCTV footage.
“Once caught, these criminals will realise it wasn’t worth it.”
Insp Noeleen Murrin, of West Midlands Police, who is investigating the attack, said: “We believe this to be an isolated incident, and are working to understand the motive behind it.
“The investigation is progressing and witnesses are being spoken to.
“We’re speaking to other venues in the area to offer reassurance.”
Anyone with information should contact West Midlands Police, quoting log 41 of 13 January.
