The man Dipps Bhamrah needs no introduction, musician, presenter and a man who has supported the Bhangra scene through thick and thin. So when we heard he was going to be dropping a new mixtape, we felt duty bound to give him the same support he has afforded the scene over the years. The mix tape bangs, but, hold up, why are we mumbling on, why not let Dipps himself give you the lowdown on the mixtape and the inspiration behind it!
Dipps Bhamrah: So back in April, BBC Asian Network had a Bhangra All Dayer. With loads of one off shows and special guest, I wanted to do something unique and special for all the Bhangraheads.
I Thought about a remix, wasn’t feeling it. Thought about a mashup, nothing too difficult there … so I finally decided to go all in and try to represent the 5 decades of Bhangra music and I’m not gonna lie, it was fun!
Over 40 tunes in a half and hour set with an attempt to represent as many different acts as possible. You’ve got your standard big hitters like Diljit & Malkit, I wanted to play tribute to the originals in Anari Sangeet & Heera, and the new skool like Jasmin Sandlas & Guru Randhawa. Personal faves was dropping a bit of Anakhi, Amit Rai & old skool Partners In Rhyme.
Had so much love for this and there’s so many acts I didn’t feature, I may have to think about dropping a Part 2 … dekhde ki hunda 👍🏽
