BBC Asian Network has teamed up with producers Dr Zeus, Sevaqk and Vee Music to find the next exciting star of Bhangra music. Harpz Kaur confirmed this morning on her show that submissions are open for The Bhangra Project, an on-air talent search to discover the UK’s next big Bhangra star.
Aspiring artists can enter the talent search by submitting their vocal demo to the BBC Asian Network website. The closing date for entries is 21st of October at 19:00.
Three finalists will be chosen by the judges in November. Each of them will be given the opportunity to be paired with one of the three music producers. Dr Zeus, Sevaqk and Vee Music will then create an original track with their respective finalists, which the public will then vote on.
The talent search will culminate in a live final on December 12th. This is where the winning finalist will be chosen by Asian Network listeners. Voting will open on the Asian Network’s website on December 9th. The winner of The Bhangra Project will be given the chance to perform at an Asian Network event in 2020.
Dr Zeus says: “I’m so looking forward to the launch of The Bhangra Project on BBC’s Asian Network and the opportunity to mentor the next generation of musical talent – I can’t wait to hear the submissions and to find the next big voice in Bhangra music!”
Harpz Kaur says: “This is an exciting time for the UK music scene. The Bhangra Project is a brilliant concept and way of bringing people together and helping to push new talent forward. We see and hear so many talk about their struggles of making it big and not knowing how to break barriers – that’s why we’re here to help. And I would encourage those who have had a dream of becoming an artist to be confident, have the drive and go for it! You won’t know unless you try.”
