BBC Asian Network Remains Number 1 But Sees A Drop In Listeners


RAJAR has today printed the latest listening figures for the Q3/ 2019. Q3 runs from July 1st September 30th 2019. The BBC Asian Network has remained the most listened to Asian radio station in the UK, Sunrise has firmly cemented itself as the UK’s 2nd most listened to UK Asian radio station.

The same quarter in 2018 saw BBC Asian Network with a weekly reach of 631,000 listeners, the same quarter in 2019 saw that reach decline by 29,000 to  602,000. Quarter two of 2019 saw the Asian Network hit a weekly reach of 614,000 so a 2% quarter on quarter decline. Hours listened to was down from 6.4 to 3.7. Hours listened to has been down each quarter in 2019 in comparison to 2018.

A BBC spokesperson told, “We’re delighted that BBC Asian Network remains the UK’s most listened to Asian radio station with over 600,000 listeners tuning in every week and a further 1.4 million engaging with our content across social media and YouTube. The station provides a platform for exciting new music and entertainment alongside impactful news and current affairs programming that continue to perform well for our younger audiences.”

Sunrise Radio has continued a great 2019 with a year on year rise of 21.6% in listeners. The weekly reach of the London based Asian station is now 372,000 per week. That is a rise of 3% quarter on quarter.

Radio XL, Raaj FM, Sabras Radio, Asian Sound, Sunrise Radio in Yorkshire and other digital and community Asian radio stations do not subscribe to RAJAR.
