2019 was the year that IIFA awards came home. The night dubbed the Oscars of Bollywood returned to India with a bang. Not only did the show get record viewing figures, but it also had a very Punjabi feel. The UK’s very own Desi Frenzy was asked by Jassie Gill to mix the 2018 smash hit Nikle Currant featuring Neha Kakkar, for their IIFA on-stage performance.
The new mix by Desi Frenzy went down a storm and has now got an official release.
Rather than us, rumble on, let us let Desi Frenzy talk you through how this came about:
Towards the end of August this year, I had the opportunity to work on a performance set for the Indian equivalent of the Oscars – the 20th edition of the @iifa awards, held in Mumbai, India
@jassie.gill approached me to put something together that would “make people dance”. We sat down over the course of two days in London, just after he’d finished shooting for one of his upcoming films, to work on the mix
It was a huge honour to be asked to work on such a massive performance in Jassie’s career and to be given the opportunity to represent my style, and especially Punjabi music, at one of Bollywood’s biggest events
Thank you Jassie Gill bhaji again for the opportunity and I hope you all enjoy the mix
