This is perfectly located for those who are travelling to up and down the m6, it is a mere 2 mins from Junction 9 of the M6, towards Walsall.
A car park is available outside the venue, if that is full, then there are several other places to park in and around the George, which are less than a minutes walk away, Morrisons is also just across the road. The King George has the “Good Ol’ boozer” look to it from the outside, let’s hope it feels like that once we get in. Inside it is clean and not the biggest, so stick that in the memory bank, If you are large group, call ahead.
The pub itself feels friendly, and has a welcoming feel to it. Impressed.
The draught lager is on point and the price is impressive, change from £3.00! The selection of spirits is impressive and doubles from £4, well it looks like the car might be staying at Morrisons for the night.
It is not the biggest of venues, so it seems busy, we order our food and we are informed it will be 20-25 mins, and guess what, it arrived just after 20 mins, nice.
We opted for the Monster Sizzler, and when it arrived it certainly lived up to it’s name, meat. loads of it, not as big as the Red Cow, but impressive.
The Tikka is cooked well and marinated well, the spice is not as much as we would like, but on the next visit I’m sure that can be rectified, the wings are tasty and messy just as we like. The stand out on the mix grill are the buffalo wings, these are full of flavour and the quality of the meat is very impressive, these are sealing a return visit. The prawns and the fish are not greasy but like the tikka just lacks that spice kick, the lamb chops though, not burnt, cooked well, meaty and spicy, these are decent.
The grill impresses, the lack of spice – make sure if you are a spice fan to let the kitchen know that you want more, when you order.
These we are informed are cooked fresh, so we expect these to be pipping hot and taste fresh.
The Chicken curry tastes fresh , it does not have that lukewarm feel after a couple minutes, which highlights that it is fresh. We are impressed with this dish, the sauce and the amount of meat, add to that the fresh taste that lasts the duration of the dish, boom we are coming back.
The lamb dish, was just as well prepared and delivered, the lamb is cooked well, and the spice is bang on, the sauce is flavorsome just a pity we do not have more!
The curries surpass the grill for us, but that is a close call, as the grill, is also well cooked, the staff at this place have been fantastic, friendly, and very helpful, we were informed of the plans for this place, and anything we needed was only a question away. Definitely added to the places we will visit again, and it seems that the M6 junction 9, now has Grill triangle, 3 desi pubs all serving impressive dishes. The Bradford Arm’s (Champys) and the New Hen and Chickens have some competition here, great for customers.
