Punjabi music goes from strength to strength, and we are not only talking about within the Punjabi community, we are talking India and the globe.
This week saw Diljit Dosanjh’s album CON.FI.DEN.TIAL return to the number 1 spot in India and sitting in the number 2 slot is Sidhu Moose Wala’s PBX 1.
CON.FI.DEN.TIAL has seen an upsurge in sales and views this past week as a result of his new release “Putt Jatt Da”. It seems new fans of Diljit’s are racing to check out his previous work based on his current work, as a result CON.FI.DEN.TIAL is back to number 1.
While Sidhu Moose Wala’s PBX1 album has been a massive hit, and not just inside Punjab, it seems Sidhu’s appeal has transcended the Punjabi market, songs like Jatt da Maqabla, Death Route, Selfmade, I’m Better Now, Devil, Trend and more have outperformed many other Pop songs in India.
Outside of India, the following countries are now seeing Punjabi music chart on a regular basis; Australia, New Zealand, Germany , Holland and North America.
About bloody time, is what we say.
India today, the world tomorrow, yes, we are aware that Punjabi music is churning out song after song, but what this does show is that Punjabi music is on the rise.
Innovation within the Punjabi music scene then makes it way across other markets, if the product is quality and well packaged, it will deliver!! Quality always outstrips quantity.
This week and next will see a mass of new releases, let’s hope they perform as well outside of Punjab as well as in it!!
