No ifs or buts, Dr Zeus is one of the biggest UK Punjabi music producers to impact India. Whether it be his pop numbers or his straight-up Punjabi bangers, Zeus is a big deal. Bollywood being Bollywood wants a piece of that Zeus following, but it does seem as if it has gone the normal Bollywood route of imitation rather than directly to the source.
The official trailer for a new film called Bala was released last week. The film is produced by Dinesh Vijan and directed by Amar Kaushik. If you listen to the trailer you clearly hear a song that sounds exactly like the Dr Zeus song featuring Rouge ‘Don’t Be Shy’. This we thought was in conjunction with Dr Zeus, but a tweet from Zeus himself this morning highlights once again.
Bollywood wants its cake and to eat it for free.

Song Name – Don’t Be Shy 🎬 Movie Name – Bala 🎤 Singers – Badshah, Shalmali Kholgade, Gurdeep Mehendi & Sachin – Jigar ► Music Composer – Sachin- Jigar ► Lyrics – Mellow D , Badshah ► Arrangements & Programming- Sachin – Jigar ► Additional Programming – Abhishek Singh ► Music Production Head – Romil Ved
The original version of Don’t Be Shy was a huge hit for Zeus and one of the UK’s first Asian girl bands Rouge. It was only in September that Spotify printed details of how Punjabi music was growing faster than any other regional language music in India. The report also highlighted how Bollywood music was losing listeners faster than ever before. This latest incident involving Zeus and a song over 10 years old highlights how Bollywood is searching for the spark to realign itself with the younger music fan, Problem being – it does not wish to go the gentlemanly way about doing this!
The film Bala might be in legal trouble as the makers of Sunny Singh starrer Ujda Chaman is exploring legal options over copyright violations. Both films feature a bald protagonist and are based on the issue of pre-mature balding. The trailer of Ayushmann’s Bala possesses a striking similarity with the earlier released trailer of Ujda Chaman which was pitched as the first film with a bald protagonist. Interestingly Bala which was earlier scheduled to release on November 15 has been now rescheduled for a November 7, a day before Ujda Chaman hits the theatre on November 8.
