Streaming may still be young, but Drake is now the biggest artists on two of the leading streaming platforms Apple Music and Spotify, the figures released last week, once calculated mean he has now generated comfortably over $100m for himself and his fellow rights-holders across the two services.
Apple confirmed just over a week ago that, following the release of his record-breaking Scorpion album, Drake has now surpassed 10bn lifetime streams on Apple Music, becoming the first artist in history to do so.
And on Spotify?
Across Drakes 168 tracks (yes, the man is a machine, and this includes tracks he has appeared on for other artists) he has attracted 13.018bn charting streams to date on Spotify.
So… it appears safe to say that Drake’s 23bn+ chart-eligible streams across Apple Music and Spotify alone would have equated to a lifetime total payout in excess of $115m.
The true figure is likely to be higher, especially if billions of Drake streams, as expected, have not been considered chart-eligible by Spotify.
