A Counter Intelligence team has arrested two cross-border drug peddlers (one is a Punjabi singer) with 1-kg heroin in Fazilka, along the Ferozepur-Fazilka highway last night.
Ajay Maluja, AIG (Counter Intelligence), today said they had acted on a tip-off and swooped to intercepted a car on the Ferozepur-Fazilka highway, carrying three passengers. Ajay Maluja said while two individuals were arrested and identified as Harjinder Singh, alias Kalakar, of Alfuke village and Lakhbir Singh of Gandhu Khilcha village a third accomplice managed to flee after attacking a policeman.
The third accused, later identified as Harjinder Singh, hit constable Amardeep Singh on his head with a brick when the latter was trying to overpower him and escaped.
The AIG said during the search of the two arrested, four packets of heroin, weighing 250 gm each, were recovered. He said during the CI teams preliminary interrogation, the accused admitted that they had brought the consignment from Pakistan through border outpost DT Mal along the zero line in the gearbox of their tractor.
