Amrit Sinh from Budd Lake New Jersey is facing charges after police say he groped a female EMT (Emergency Medical Team) volunteer following an arrest for trespassing in Byram last week.
According to the Byram Township Police Department, officers responded to the Shell gas station at the intersection of Route 206 and Waterloo Road at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, for reports of an intoxicated man causing a disturbance.
The man, identified as Amrit Singh, a former employee, refused to leave after being told several times that he faced arrest if he remained on the property, police said. He was then taken into custody and brought to police headquarters, where he was charged with defiant trespassing.
After being processed, Singh was transported by the Lakeland Emergency Squad to an area hospital for treatment. Once Singh had been dropped off, a female volunteer EMT reported that he had groped her several times as she attempted to provide medical aid during the ride, police said.
Officers took witness statements and responded to the hospital, where they placed Singh under arrest again after he was medically cleared. He was charged with criminal sexual contact and lodged without bail in the Sussex County Jail.
