This weekends football is dominated by the FA Cup, but whilst that was going on a game in the Championship made history. Stoke City v Swansea City may not sound like a history-making game but for us Punjabis it certainly was. This was the first time that two Punjabi footballers had come face to face in a championship game.
Daniel Tanveer Batth was playing for Stoke and Yan Dhanda came on for Swansea City. This was the first time that two professional footballers of Punjabi descent had faced each other in the Championship. This long term can only be good thing as more Asians look to get into football. Danny Batth’s Stoke City had the last laugh this time as they beat Yan Dhandas Swansea 2-0. Check out the highlights of the game below.
Yesterday also saw Mal Benning in the headlines again, this time for football reasons and thankfully not discussing more racist tweets sent to him. The Mansfield town footballer took to social media to share his stats from the Mansfield Town V Bradford City game. Mal Benning delivered a Man of the Match performance. Go On Mal! Great performance. Check out his two assists here from yesterdays game.
The twitter account Punjabi Villans certainly did highlight yesterdays history-making game between Stoke City and Swansea City.
Historic moment for Punjabis.
First time 2 Punjabi lads played on the same pitch in the FA Cup. @yandhanda & @Danny_Batth Stoke City vs Swansea City. #punjabi #history
