Golden Roots Baba Tera Nankana: The music scene is growing daily, we have pop music, underground music all the way through to urban releases being feed to us daily. The toughest and most overcrowded part of the market is the religion/faith genre. So to stand out you need to be unique and brave & on that note say hello to Golden Roots.
Golden Roots (which was founded in 2014 ) is a UK based Sikh (dharmik) band. The band is made up of 5 members who are all UK born and raised Sikhs. Today saw them release their debut track ‘Baba Tera Nankana’ a cover version of the song by the late great Amar Singh Chamkila. The main USP of Golden Roots is that they blend soulful Hip Hop with Punjabi folk songs that are related to their faith. Born and raised in the UK means the guys have a really broad approach to music and they will ensure that long term all the music they listen to is reflected in their releases.
As a debut release, Baba Tera Nanakana is a huge song to tackle. It is one dharmik song that has transcended genres in the Punjabi scene. To release this as debut track is a risk as it will draw comparisons to the original. Risky or not the one thing it has done is thrust the band Golden Roots into a wider space. Let’s hope we hear more from this band sooner rather than later as what they offer musically is quite impressive.
