First Man (2018) 🌟🌟
Ah yes, the movie about the first man on the moon🌛. The American 🇱🇷 race to space against the Russians and at what cost? I’ll tell you at what cost! Bloody what felt like 3 hours of my life stolen away from me and I’ll never get those hours back 😠.
We know the history; the numerous failures to launch into space 🚀. The Russians being one step ahead. The amount of money being spent. The pressure from the Government. The public criticism. The list is endless and the movie captures all of these aspects.
There are no issues with the performances. Ryan Gosling rarely gives a bad performance and Claire Foy is ok too. So, why only two stars you ask? My issue is that all the above mentioned topics are covered in the movie, which makes it a very lengthy movie. You are just eagerly awaiting that landing on the moon. You want to see the moon. When the damn landing on the moon finally happened, my tiredness decided to kick in 😴. Not just that, the excitement 😀 that was built up to what I imagined would be a spectacular moon landing, was smashed to bloody smithereens 😒.
Basically, it felt like a lifetime to get to the moon and once there it was like “right, quick we have to go. I need to be back in time for tea”. You are left feeling cheated 😡! I was expecting more than a 2 minute landing and was prepared to be blown away; it was disappointing as it was over so quick.
The balance between telling a story and actually sharing what happened on the moon was just not delivered. I wanted to see space, as seen in the movie #gravity and that was not achieved 😕. What could have been a great movie turned out to be a disappointment. I can’t even say go check it out! Just watch Gravity or Interstellar again or, perhaps #apollo13 would be more appropriate.
2 out of 5 stars. Remember, it’s my opinion!
