Manje Bistre 2 – Fails To Make Top 20 List Off Opening Punjabi Film Weekends

0

Many eyebrows were raised when the launch date of Manje Bistre 2 was confirmed – April 12th? Vaisakhi weekend and also the 100th year anniversary to the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre, how would a comedy film manage to pull audiences when people would be occupied elsewhere was the question asked!

Manje Bistre 2 which is the  sequel to the BLOCKBUSTER Manje Bistre did not open well on it’s first weekend. The film did not not even make the top twenty openers in Punjabi cinema (GROSS BOX OFFICE) and that has left some surprised but others are left just stating the obvious “Why release on Vaisakhi weekend”.

Critics and fans who have watched the film have also felt a lack of a connection with the film due to it being based overseas which has put off quite a few Punjabi film fans.

2019 is being touted as a record year for Punjabi film releases but the returns at the box office have been poor thus far. Repetitive story lines a lack of innovation and the same jokes being churned out again and again are all reasons film fans have given in 2019 when asked why they are staying away!

The repetitive formula of singers in films may just have caught up with the Punjabi film scene in 2019, the more people go to cinemas the more they want to be treated to something new, a lot of hopes are now being pinned on the biography of Kuldeep Manak, Babbu Maan’s Sucha Soorma and Dev Khraoud’s Blackia to turn round the Punjabi films poor box office returns in 2019.
