Nirvair Singh Dhillon Jailed For 40 Years After Setting Up Sexual Encounter

Nirvair Singh Dhillon, from California, was convicted earlier this year for the shooting to death of a  28-year-old man. Singh has now been sentenced to 40 years to life in prison. The incident occurred after Singh had set up a sexual encounter for his girlfriend and the man, whilst he watched.

Monday’s sentencing was more than two months after he was initially due in court to be sentenced for the crime that ended in a standoff with the Manteca Police Department SWAT Team.

Nirvair Dhillon Singh, 37 was convicted by a San Joaquin County jury this past summer for the shooting death of 28-year-old Ian Brooks after an argument ensued following a sexual encounter between Brooks and Singh’s 35-year-old girlfriend. Singh had apparently met Brooks through an online personals section and had agreed to set up the romp at the couple’s Union North apartment.

According to the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s office, the argument ensued after Brooks had sex with Singh’s girlfriend and was trying to leave, and shortly after the disagreement began Singh shot Brooks – prompting the girlfriend to escape the room into a nearby closet where she notified authorities.

Because Singh refused to come out of the apartment when officers arrived, the Manteca Police Department’s SWAT team was called out and a four-hour standoff ensued before the man surrendered himself peacefully to authorities. Officers then entered into the apartment where they discovered Brooks fatally wounded.

The crime rocked the relatively sleepy Union North Apartment complex, which is now among the costliest in the city.
