Prabhjot & Sukhdev Decide To Rob A Bank – Robbery Inspired Hollywod Film ‘Baby Driver’


Prabhjot Singh (25) and Sukhdev Singh (19) had seen fortunes in their cloth trade take a downturn. So what do you when your business is failing? Rob a bank? And how do you hatch the plan? Easy, you watch a Hollywood comedy for the masterplan.

Inspired by a Hollywood film, ‘Baby Driver’, two men tried to rob a bank by allegedly firing in the air and threatening staff in Shahdara’s Krishna Nagar area in New Delhi, following which they were arrested, police said on Sunday.

The accused, identified as Prabhjot Singh (25) and Sukhdev Singh (19), were arrested while a third person, Inderjeet, who had brought the pistol used to commit the crime, managed to getaway.

After suffering huge losses in his own business, Prabhjot Singh hatched a conspiracy to rob the bank by taking inspiration from a Hollywood movie, “Baby Driver”, police said. The three men had watched the film several times. They had mimicked the robbery several times after watching ‘Baby Driver. Notes on the film and how the robbery was to take place were also made. Each robber was assigned a name from the film. Masking their real identity.

A motorcycle used to commit the crime was seized, police said. According to local police, two people attempted to rob the Kotak Mahindra Bank on July 2 at around 3.15 pm.

However, the attempt was foiled by a bank security guard following which a scuffle broke out between them.

The CCTV footage inside and outside the bank was scanned. The entire route of around 2.5 km taken by the accused persons was also mapped and searched in order to identify them, police said.

Interrogation revealed that the accused conducted recce of the bank and the route a week before the incident. They chose to rob the bank after lunchtime when the cash was being offloaded, Meghna Yadav, Deputy Commissioner of Police (southeast) said.

Prabhjot Singh disclosed that he has a bank account in Connaught Place Branch of the Kotak Mahindra Bank. He would frequently visit the Krishna Nagar branch for transactions. From such visits, he became aware of the security setup inside and outside the bank, the officer said.
