Pretending To Be A Famous Punjabi Film Producer This Imposter Then Blackmailed Girls

Everyone in Punjab wants to be a model, singer or actor/actress. Yet, waiting to exploit gullible people are the likes of Obed Afridi. Mr Afridi used the name of a famous Punjabi movie producer to exploit girls interested in playing roles in movies or modelling.

Mr Afridi used the name of Punjabi movie producer GS Sidhu, who also owns studios and a music company, to exploit young girls. Information released by the police states the suspect used to make calls to young girls interested in movies, music videos or modelling and introduced himself as movie producer Sidhu to intice them.

“Then he used to ask them to send their photos and videos in objectionable poses. This way he exploited a number of young girls,” said the police.

Sources claim that the issue came to light when Sidhu came to know how his name was being misused by Mr Afridi. It was that Sidhu’s team traced the whereabouts of the imposter and informed the police about the things he was doing.

“The police nabbed Afridi when he came to the Mohali area a couple of days ago to shoot some song,” said the sources.

The police said Afridi was working as some casting agent. The police recovered a tablet from him in which they found over 30 photos and videos of victims.

A case under appropriate sections of the IPC has been registered against the suspect at the Phase 1 police station here.
