The Punjabi rap scene has forked off in many directions, commercial, dark, pop and downright awful, one of the few genuine rappers who is gathering a head of steam and growing his audience daily it seems is ‘Sultaan’ and after he successfully released his independent album ‘I Am The Future’ it seems as if he and his crew are gunning for the big boys of the commercial scene – Brown Boys!
Now, we have no idea why the beef was initiated by Sultaan, but he has certainly gone in with personal attack on both Byg Byrd and Sunny Malton. Sultaan questions how ‘real’ both of them are and goes on to question the content of their music.
We understand the thought process of Sultaan who refuses to bow down to the needs of the commercial scene and we get that he is angry, but would he have been better off going after the commercial scene as a whole, and what they are doing to ‘Punjabi rap’ rather than two artist’s who represent Punjabi rap music quite impressively?
When the US rap scene went after the more commercial rappers on the R’n’B scene they went after the scene as a whole and then threw in bars about individuals, that may have been the better route to go, As calling out a more commercially successful artist may look to others as if Sultaan is after more publicity and press?!
We understand that that is not Sultaan’s style though and going for Brown Boys is his thing, so why not check out the song and let us know your thoughts… Sultaan went in!!!!
