Around six youths allegedly kidnapped a travel agent and beat him after he had sent three of them abroad on a tourist visa instead of the promised work visa, police said on Saturday. Other people have said to have been duped by the same agent.
The accused allegedly kidnapped Mandeep Singh, a resident of Manana village in Kharar, from Sunny Enclave on Friday evening and took him to Jhingrah village near Kurali. The travel agent was tied with a rope at a house when cops rescued him reports the TOI.
According to police, the accused have been identified as Mandeep Singh of Ambala, Ravi, a resident of Cholta village, Sukhchain Singh, Major Singh and Harpreet Singh, all residents of Jhingrah near Kurali.
The agent had allegedly sent Mandeep Singh, Harpreet Singh and Sukhchain to Malaysia in 2018. After landing in that country, the three learnt that they had been issued a tourist visa and returned to India after three days.
The travel agent said he had gone to pick up his sister from Sunny Enclave on a motorcycle. He said he was waiting outside a temple for his sister when the six accused arrived in a Tata Safari and forcefully pushed him inside.
The accused took him to a school in Jhingrah and assaulted him. Later, they took him to a house of one of the accused. Assistant sub-inspector Kewal Singh, the investigating officer, said that the accused also misled the police.
After kidnapping and assaulting the agent, they lodged a complaint at the Kurali Sadar police station that he had tried to attack them at their house and they managed to tie him.
Family members of the agent had lodged a missing person’s complaint. “On the basis of clues, we went to Jhingrah and rescued the agent.
