Punjabi singer Shubhdeep Singh AKA Sidhu Moosewala, on Thursday, appeared before the Akal Takht. The highest temporal seat of the Sikhs and tendered an apology for his song that created controversy and backlash from Sikhs for mentioning female warrior Mai Bhago.
Sidhu Moosewala and his father appeared before Akal Takht chief Giani Harpreet Singh and apologised. Earlier, the singer had apologised in a letter to the Akal Takht head, where he said he was unaware that his act would hurt the Sikh sentiments.
“I am humble servant of the Guru and fully believe in Akal Takht sahib. I tender an apology and assure that I will not repeat such mistake again,” he had said in his letter in September last year.
“After returning from my foreign tour in November, I will appear before the Takht along with my family,” he had said.
The song in question was from the film Ardab Mutiyaran. The leaked version contained the verse that upset many Sikhs. The official version had the verse removed and went on to become one of the biggest hits of 2019.
Sidhu Moosewala spoke to the gathered press when he left the Akal Takht to inform people of what had happened. He stated that he is ready to accept any punishment handed out from the Akhal Takht and that he is just a humble servant of Guru ji.
