The sad details of a baby kidnapping have now come to light. Luckily the baby has been recovered and returned to her parents. Punjab police have arrested a woman, who had stolen the two-day-old girl from the Civil Hospital on February 10. The ADCP, Gurpreet Singh Sikand, said the suspect identified as Rajvir Kaur of Hoshiarpur was arrested today.
The child is presently undergoing treatment at a hospital, the ADCP added. The infant has been reunited with her parents.
The suspect had stolen an infant as she could not give birth to a child of her own due to some health issues. A plot was then created to steal a child by Rajvir about nine months ago. Rajvir’s husband was a truck driver and he remained out of the state for months, the suspect lied to him that she was pregnant. After stealing the child from the hospital, the suspect informed her husband that she delivered a baby girl.
Rajvir has stated that it was the fear of marriage break up that led her to commit this crime. Upon hearing of her medical condition Rajvir was told by her relatives that, her being unable to have a child would lead to her husband getting married again.
Later, the suspect started living along with the child at the home of Gurpreet, her husband’s sister, in Jhabewal. When Gurpreet became suspicious about her pregnancy, she asked the suspect to return the child, but the latter left the child at home and fled.
Gurpreet then dumped the child on the Sahnewal airport road and called the police control room herself posing as a passerby. The police recovered the child. Later, on checking the CCTV footage police saw Gurpreet dumping the child on the road. The police then rounded up Gurpreet, who revealed that Rajvir had stolen the infant from hospital, which led to the latter’s arrest.
