With the growing popularity of Punjabi cinema is it any surprise that more and more actors from Bollywood are looking at the North India to try and further their reach and appeal. The latest to show her hand and willingness to work in Pollywood is the controversial Punjabi actress Sunny Leone aka Karenjit Kaur Vohra.
Speaking in a recent interview Sunny Leone expressed her willingness to work in Punjabi movies and also stated it is something she has thought about doing for a long period of time, and with her Punjabi roots, Sunny explained that the decision to enter Pollywood makes sense to her.
This is not the first time that Sunny Leone has talked about entering the Punjabi movie scene, in 2016 there were also rumors about Sunny being the female lead in the third franchise of the popular Punjabi rom-com Jatt and Juliet 3 opposite Diljit Dosanjh. It was a well known fact that filmmakers were in advanced talks with the actress, and the deal was all set to be signed when for one reason or another both parties mutually agreed not to press forward with the deal.
If Sunny Leone was to enter the Punjabi movie scene, what will be interesting to see is, if she enters as Sunny or Karenjit Kaur. The former glamour model received widespread condemnation from various groups in Punjab for using her real name in her life documentary ‘Mostly Sunny’. Would working in Punjabi films appease or upset those same groups?
