This year marks the 100 year anniversary of the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre and even though Shaheed Udham Singh’s face is yet to appear on any Indian bank notes every director in Bollywood is now gushing over the ‘National Treasure’ and looking at biopics about him and the massacre.
Amrinder Singh of Ghaint Punjab informs us that the biopic will be directed by Shoojit Sircar and produced by Ronnie Lahiri. The film is a biopic on the revolutionary, who assassinated Michael O’Dwyer, the former Lieutenant Governor of Punjab in British India in 1940, to avenge the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre.
Vicky Kaushal hot on the heels of his last blockbuster ‘Uri’ has been awarded the part of Shaheed Udham Singh reports Ghaint Punjab.
Let’s hope Bollywood don’t mess this up like they did the Bhagat Singh movie starring Bobby Deol, but one thing is for sure the film will clash with other projects coming out in and around the same time to mark the anniversary.
For us, the film will have to be damn impressive to top the 1999 version starring Raj Babbar and Gurdas Maan, and what a soundtrack it had!
