Tru Skool & His Team Go The Independent Route – Check One Recordz

Tru Skool Check One Recordz: The ability to holds one destiny in ones owns hand is a dream for so many musicians and artists. Record labels hold the key to bigger audiences and numerous opportunities not to mention the bigger paycheques, but you do have to sell them your soul!

Over the last decade or so and with the rise of social media and streaming platforms, the independent label is no longer as daunting as in previous era’s. The latest to throw his hat in the independent ring is Tru-Skool with the launch of Check One Recordz. It was yesterday that Tru-Skool took to social media to confirm the launch of his label.

No details have been released as of yet about artists, songs or dates but it does look like the Tru-Skool camp are now masters of their own destiny & paycheques. One of the terms used in the social media post was ‘Underground’ which certainly has left a few people perplexed.

‘Underground’ is a hip hop term and was used by many an independent hip hop label during the early years of the scene. The term was used as an umbrella term for hip hop music outside the general commercial circle.

It is typically associated with independent artists, signed to independent labels or no label at all. Underground hip hop is often characterized by socially conscious, positive, or anti-commercial lyrics. So that does curtail any large major commercial releases from the label. So even though the Tru-Skool camp is now providing new UK talent with an avenue for releases, still expect to see the Diljit Dosanjh, Sidhu Moose Wala and Nimrat projects to pop up on other platforms. Even JK’s last release (Bhabieh) which was a commercial song may well have not appeared on this new ‘Underground’ label.

A positive move for the Tru-Skool camp, now we just need material Is Prince the debut release on the label?
