Mumbai-based model Naomi Janumala is certainly making waves across the internet after being featured in Rihanna’s newly-launched fashion brand. The luxury fashion line is the latest venture between the pop star and LVMH, the French luxury goods company.

Rihanna is the first woman of colour to create a brand with the French luxury house. The brand campaign featured the 19-year-old model Naomi. She has been one of the top Indian faces to be featured on many international brands like Adidas, Alexander Wang and Nordstrom to name a few. But, Naomi’s biggest claim to fame is that she is the niece of Bollywood star  Johnny Lever!

Naomi has talked about how she got the opportunity through her international modelling agency. She also went on to reveal the details of her meeting with Rihanna to Vogue.


When I first met Rihanna, we hugged, and the first thing she asked me was, ‘Where [are]you from?’ When I told her I was from India, she screamed, ‘I knew it, I knew I wanted you!
You’re so gorgeous, it’s annoying, I don’t even want to stand next to you! Ahhh!’” remembers Janumala, who was pleasantly surprised. “I can’t even believe it sometimes that she said all of that to me.”

Rihanna also told Naomi that she was excited to have an Indian model, as some of the pieces from her collection have borrowed inspiration from Indian wear. “She told me how some of her clothes and earrings were inspired by a sari and jhumkas,” Naomi told Vogue.

The pop star has been breaking the fashion and beauty standards with her make-up line and now newly-launched label. She first made news when she launched 40 foundation shades for every skin colour. And, now, with her new label, she made news again. For Fenty’s pop-up in New York, she displayed clothes on curvy mannequins.
