26-year-old Yadwinder Singh from Shelton Stoke-on-Trent has been jailed for five years and five months. Singh was found guilty of rape and three charges of sexual activity with a child, reports Stoke on Trent Live.

A rape victim, a teenager who cannot be indentified has spoken out after the sex beast was jailed for a sickening attack. The teen sent a passionate statement to Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court detailing how the assault left her feeling and the impact it has had on her life.

In a statement read out in court, his victim said: “Ever since it happened, I have felt like I was no longer myself, I was playing the girl who I used to be before any of this started. “I was incapable of seeing people. I could not open up or trust anybody. I could not go to my friends and I worried that people would see me differently – they would just see an abused girl.

“I thought it would be better if I was the only one in pain. Then no-one would treat me differently and I would spend most nights trying to get past it.

“I felt empty, I was no longer capable of feeling positive.

“When it came out, everything I feared came true and people were jumping on me and saying I should have fought and tried harder to stop it. I didn’t want to hear that from anyone.

“It was hard to handle once everyone knew. I had to try not to break down.

“I still struggle to talk about it. It is unfortunate that I cannot move on with my life.”

The court heard Singh, of The Avenue, Shelton, initially touched the girl inappropriately before raping her.

Prosecutor Jonathan Dickinson said: “He took his chance when it arrived having already groomed the girl.”

David Iles, mitigating, told the court his client regularly helps out at his local Sikh temple.

Mr Iles said: “His wife was in an abusive marriage previously and has now been let down by two husbands. She had to go home and explain to their children that their dad is not coming home.

“He has a reference from the temple where a number of people have spoken of the good work he does. He will no longer be able to show his face there.”

Singh broke down in court as Judge Dean Kershaw prepared to deliver the sentence.
