Yan Dhanda achieved a very special personal target when he curled home a brilliant goal in front of the Kop to cap off Liverpool U23s’ 5-1 victory over Chelsea on the 9th May 2018. “I’m glad it went in, I’ve imagined scoring a goal like that in front of the Kop for ages. So it’s good to finally score it,” he told Liverpoolfc.com after the final whistle.
Move forward 6 days, and the news coming from the Yan Dhanda camp looks less heart warming, as it seems that Liverpool FC will not be extending his contract in the summer meaning he is free to leave the club. Us at desi’s had pinned a lot of hope on Yan Dhanda to be the first UK Asian footballer to break through at a top 4 club, it just seems it will not be Dhanda at Liverpool FC.
Steven Gerrard who has been a big fan of Dhanda, may now look to take the talented youngster to Glasgow Rangers, which may not be a bad thing for Dhanda as playing first team football which has to be his aim might be more realistic at Rangers than at Liverpool FC.
Either way, let’s just hope another talented Desi footballing star is not lost to the footballing abyss.
